Monk

"Practice. Preparation. Endless repetition. Until your mind is weary, and your bones ache. Until you're too tired to sweat. Too wasted to breathe."

Monks get special fighting powers from practicing hard at kung fu.

Armored In Life (Ex): A monk who is not wearing armor or using a shield gains a special Armor bonus to AC. This is a +4 bonus, and it even applies against touch attacks and incorporeal touch attacks. At 2nd level, it becomes a +5 bonus. A monk can wear "non-armor" outfits and retain their Armored In Life bonus.

Willow Step (Ex): A true Monk does not seek to outrun the fist, but to anticipate it. If a Monk would be allowed to add their Dexterity modifier to a Reflex Save or Armor Class, they may add their Wisdom modifier instead.

Fatal Strike (Ex): A monk's unarmed attack is as lethal as any mace. It deals 1d8 bludgeoning damage (more or less if your size category increases or decreases), and if a monk attacks with only their unarmed strike they add 1.5x their Strength modifier to the damage (as if it was a two-handed weapon). If they use two-weapon fighting use the normal rules for strength modifier and two-weapon fighting. A monk's fatal strike can be made with any body part (foot, fist, headbutt) so simply tying up their hands or something like that will not deter them. A monk's unarmed strike can be affected by spells that affect manufactured weapons as well as by spells that affect natural weapons.

Fighting Style (Ex): At 1st level and also at 3rd level a monk learns a fighting stance. It takes a Swift action to activate and it uses their swift action each round as long as it's in use (but you don't have to say you're using it over and over). A monk's fighting style should have a suitably monkish name (see below), and provides two different benefits off of the following list:

  • +4 Dodge Bonus to AC.
  • +4 Dodge Bonus to Saving Throws.
  • Opponents have a 20% miss chance (aka Concealment).
  • +30ft Bonus to your movement rate.
  • You can move through occupied spaces as if they were unoccupied, and you provoke no attacks of opportunity for your movement.
  • You can make an attack of opportunity against any opponent who attacks you, but this attack of opportunity must be a trip or disarm attempt.
  • Any opponent struck by your unarmed attack must make a Fortitude Save (DC 10 + half your level + Wis Mod) or be Stunned for one round.
  • Your slam attacks ignore hardness and DR.
  • Your slam attacks inflict piercing damage and also deal 2 points of Constitution damage from blood loss.
  • Your slam attacks inflict slashing damage and reduce your opponent's movement rate by 10ft every time they take damage. This movement rate reduction can be healed like ability damage (treating 5ft of movement as 1 point of ability damage).
  • Your fighting style's unarmed bonuses also apply to any melee weapon attacks you make. Ranged weapon attacks must target creatures within 30ft to get the fighting style bonuses.

Rain of Flowers (Su): A 2nd level monk can convert any damage they inflict between lethal and non-lethal at any time.

Abundant Leap (Su): A 2nd level monk doubles the result of all their Jump checks.
