Soulborn

"Do you know what it means when a man has a sword made of blue soulfire? It means he can kill you with a sword made of blue soulfire."

A soulborn is a character whose soul has been wrapped in blue soulfire. This lets them tap into the universal soulfire and bend it into various power ups. Also, they can form a weapon made from soulfire to chop things up.

Soulfire can be any other color you like, as long as it's blue.

Soulblade (Su): As a Swift action a soulborn can call out a weapon made of blue soulfire. It imitates the form of some martial weapon (typically a sword), but regardless of appearance it deals 1d10 damage with a 19-20 threat range. The soulblade deals Force damage, and so it ignores the hardness of objects and always strikes incorporeal and ethereal creatures successfully. It is always a Magic weapon (+1 to attack and damage, defeats DR/magic) and it gives off light like a torch. The soulblade can be sent away with a Swift action, and it also disappears the moment it leaves the soulborn's hand.

Soul Melds (Su): A soulborn has the ability to call upon a number of special blue glowing, intangible wardrobe accessories that cause them to glow blue and have powers. Each soul meld is unique, should have its own name (see below), and sheds light like a torch. A soulborn knows two different soul melds at 1st level, and learns one additional soul melds every time they gain a level. Most soulborn soul melds are passive effects, and they will say if they need an action to be activated. As with the Soulblade, soulmelds can be brought out or put away with a Swift action. A soulborn can only have one soul meld available ("shaped") at once. It takes fifteen minutes of meditation to change which soul meld is active. Each soul meld has a power from the following list (DC, if any, is 10 + half level + Charisma Modifier):

  • Animal Summoning: Once per day per point of Charisma bonus, the Soulborn can summon an animal with a CR equal to half their own level or less as a Standard Action. The summoned creature lasts 10 rounds.
  • Blurring: As the Blur spell.
  • Counterspelling: The Soulborn can spend an Immediate action to attempt to counter a spell that targets them or includes them in its area of effect by making a Dispel check using their level as the caster level.
  • Darkvision: The Soulborn gains Darkvision 120ft.
  • Enlargement: As per the Enlarge Person spell.
  • Levitation: As the Levitate spell.
  • Master Sword: The soulborn's soulblade can shoot tiny bolts of soulfire when they swing it. Treat this as a ranged attack with the soulblade with a range of 60ft.
  • Nimbus of Light: This meld sheds light like a sunrod, and once per day the soulborn can activate a Shield of Faith effect on themselves as a free action.
  • Shrinking: As per the Reduce Person spell.
  • Silence: As per the Silence spell, self only.
  • Wall Walking: As per the Spider Climb spell.

Resilient Soul (Su): A 2nd level soulborn can reroll any failed save against a [Death] effect. They only get one reroll per save, but this ability can otherwise be activated as often as a save is called for.

Soul Smite (Su): A 2nd level soulborn can declare a soul smite as a Swift action. This adds their Charisma Bonus to attack and their level to damage with all attacks made until the start of their next turn. Once used, you can't use this again for 1 minute.

Magic Sight (Sp): A 3rd level soulborn's connection to the soulfire lets them cast Detect Magic at-will.

Extra Soulmeld (Ex): A 3rd level soulborn can shape two soulmelds at once.
